Fran McGibbon's Bio:
Mary Frances (Fran) McGibbon is a Doctor of Nursing Practice and Family Nurse Practitioner with an active practice in Manhattan, New York.
She has been a practicing nurse for almost 38 years. She began her nursing career as an Operating Room Nurse at Bellevue Hospital in NYC and North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York.
Since 1995 she has worked as a Nurse Practitioner in Surgery and was the first Registered Nurse First Assistant in NYC. She continued her education and successfully defended her thesis at Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, on Sept. 7th, 2011. This was just days before the tenth anniversary of the WTCD. She continues to focus her research efforts on 9/11 themes.
In addition, during the Summer of 2011, she was invited to continue her research efforts at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. It was there that she wrote the position paper on First Responders to encourage our legislature to pass the Zadroga Act. She continues to pursue research in the area of public policy and is presently preparing to study the nurses in NYC following the effects of Super Storm Sandy. She is a member of several professional nursing organizations including the Nursing and Midwifery Council of the United Kingdom, the Association of Operating Room Nurses, National League of Nurses, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Association and the Medical Reserve Corp New York City Office of Emergency Management.
